Dr. Tarek A. Alshafie is a board-certified vascular physician specializing in surgery and the treatment of vascular diseases. Working with a team of professionals at the Vascular Endovascular Associates of New Jersey in Ridgewood, NJ, he is dedicated to seeing his patients recover fully, quickly and efficiently. “My expertise allows me to personalize the treatment for each individual patient,” says Dr. Alshafie. “Patient safety is a priority.” 

He has put together an impressive resume, including international post-graduate training at the Pancreatic Surgery and Cancer Institute in Osaka,Japan; liver surgery and hepatic vascular intervention training at Paul Brousse Institute in Paris; laparoscopic surgery at University of Gottingen in Germany; a Fellowship in General Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine at Menoufyia University in Egypt; and Chief Resident in General Surgery at the Columbia University Harlem Hospital Center in New York, to name a few. “It is important to choose a board-certified physician who has the right experience in the field,” advises Dr. Alshafie. “Finding a physician with years of pertinent experience will establish that he or she has been exposed to a variety of diseases and complicated cases.” 

He also is a member of notable medical societies including the American College of Surgeons, Society of Vascular Surgery, International Society of Vascular Surgeons, and the Egyptian American Medical Association. Currently, Dr. Alshafie is the attending surgeon at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood and Hackensack UMC at Pascack Valley in Westwood. Patients who visit Vascular and Endovascular Associates receive a variety of treatments, including carotid endarterectomy, arterial bypass, dialysis access procedures, varicose vein therapy, upper and lower arterial duplex, endovenous ablation for venous insufficiency, and IVC filter placement/removal. “We have a fully equipped onsite vascular laboratory that uses the latest and most advanced ultrasound equipment,” notes Dr. Alshafie. “The vascular lab offers noninvasive studies to evaluate every part of the vascular system.” 

Currently, Dr. Alshafie is the attending surgeon at The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood and Hackensack UMC. He holds an academic appointment at Rutgers through which he teaches vascular surgery at Jersey City Medical Center. 

When he is not working in his office, he is out volunteering. He is the founder of the nonprofit organization Egyptian American Medical Association, which coordinates medical missions in Egypt. It has a charity clinic in the United States, as well.

Dr Alshafie is fluent in English and Arabic.
